Is Dairy good for you?

Dairy contains the three macronutrients – protein, fats and carbohydrates.

If you react to dairy, it is often the carbohydrate (sugar) lactose or the protein casein and the whey proteins that can be hard to digest.

To determine if you are challenged by dairy, you ideally must remove all dairy. I recommend you trial this for a minimum of 4 weeks, to get an accurate understanding of how your body responds.

Remember dairy is not just milk, yoghurt and cheese. It includes products containing – cream, ice cream, sour cream, butter, margarine, chocolate (unless cacao based), whitener, lactose, powdered milks and casein.

There are some amazing dairy substitutes available for children and adults. These include almond, coconut, rice and macadamia milk. Coconut yoghurt, plant-based ice creams, cashew cheese and avocado, tahini or olive oil as a healthy substitute for butter.

Please let me know if you would like more guidance with going dairy free.
